In a world where magic and power collide, can they defy destiny, or are they doomed to become the ghosts of a story already told?
We Are All Sinners is one of the best books I've read so far this year. It is a dark, paranormal romance book that will have you hooked from the moment you start reading. Evie and Brixons story will have you laughing out loud one minute and crying the next. Evie loses her mom and grandma, and Brixon loses his dad. They are each given a letter that they are to open in the event of death. It's through this letter that Brixon learns of Evie and the fact they were in love when they were teens. He also learns of a curse that was put on them, and it's up to them to try and break it. This book is full of secrets, twists, and turns, and it will keep you reading to the end. The ending I did not see coming, and it made me say wth. I still haven't. I gave this book a five-star because it was good, and I just love Evie and Brixon. They are a great couple.
C.R. Johnson's We Are All Sinners is a compelling entry into the realm of dark paranormal romance that captivates with its intricate storytelling and rich character development. The novel follows the journey of Evie and Brixon, who navigate a world filled with supernatural elements and emotional turmoil.
One of the standout features of this book is its atmospheric writing. Johnson expertly crafts a dark, angsty environment that immerses readers in the characters' struggles and desires. The tension between light and dark themes is palpable, making for a gripping read that keeps you turning the pages. The heartfelt moments sprinkled throughout the narrative add depth to the characters, allowing readers to connect with their experiences on a personal level.
The character dynamics are another highlight, particularly the complex relationship between Evie and Brixon. Their interactions are layered with tension and vulnerability, showcasing Johnson's ability to explore the nuances of love and redemption amidst chaos. This emotional depth elevates the story beyond typical genre fare, inviting readers to reflect on their own perceptions of morality and sin.
However, while the book excels in many areas, there are moments where pacing falters, particularly in the middle sections, which may detract from the overall momentum. Some readers might find certain plot developments predictable, as they follow familiar tropes within the genre. Nonetheless, these minor drawbacks do not overshadow the book's strengths.
In conclusion, We Are All Sinners is a thought-provoking and engaging read that successfully blends romance with darker themes. C.R. Johnson has crafted a narrative that resonates emotionally while providing an intriguing exploration of human flaws. For fans of paranormal romance looking for something with a bit more depth, this book is definitely worth picking up. I would rate it 4 out of 5 stars for its compelling characters and atmospheric storytelling.
I struggled with this book. It had a strong start and an ending that is definitely not HEA but made up for some of the confusion I was having throughout the book.
I felt this story had too many side characters and there was just too much going on that it was hard to follow. Additionally, the personalities of the characters juxtaposed with the setting of the story (Brixon and Evies super lovey dovey cute romance mixed with this dom kinky sex life and then throw in this super dark plot of a sex trafficking ring mixed with this centuries year witches curse- see a lot going on here). It also felt for such impending doom that was coming, there really wasn’t any sense of urgency to try to find solutions; the focus was just on their wedding.
I also struggled with the age matching of the characters. They are supposedly near thirties it seemed (10 years after car incident after 17/18 years old) but acted to be in their early 20s? In terms of conversation, jobs, day to day activities, etc.
Overall, it did have me chuckling here and there and it did have a strong start with a promising story line. The spicy scenes are well done. The ending is NOT HEA- REPEAT NOT HEA - but it did clear up for me the constant questions I had of what did B see that E didn’t that he wasn’t sharing.
I really enjoyed the premise of this book. It was something a little different from what you normally expect. This was a new to me author as well so I was keen to broaden my author-scope! It was really interesting in the way this book started and the secrets that started to unfold from the beginning. Brix and Evie had known each other for a lot longer than they had realised. Everything comes flooding back for Brix, however it takes a little bit more time for Evie. I enjoyed their back and forth, she did get a little bit frustrating at times, but for the most part, I really liked both characters. I struggled a little with the type of writing this author uses. For me, I felt the sentences were a little abrupt and didn’t quite flow as well as they could have. This is just a personal thing however, and I did get used to it. I really enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to reading more by this author.

I found this novel through BookTok and connected with this amazing indie author! Her admiration and love for NOLA and the amazing cover drew me to this story. Paranormal in general has not been my go to genre, but We Are All Sinners captivated me, mixing love with the supernatural, some banter to lighten the mood, sprinkling in dark romance, secrets and a desire to find love after a curse has seperated them. No spoiling...you'll have to pick this beautiful novel up! Can't wait to read more from her!
I liked this, she's a new to me author & this is Brixon & Evie's story. They've known each other a long time & somethings happen. When they reconnect 10 years later, they pick up pretty much where they left off. A lot of secrets come to life & a lot of questions are answered. The spice was fantastic & I believe they got their HEA, not like I wanted, but I'll let you be the judge. I loved watching their story unfold. Recommend this book & author.
